Rubberstamping

page three
The rubber stamp tool is grouped with the pattern stamp tool in the toolbox. Be sure you have the rubber stamp, and not the pattern stamp before you try to retouch your image. If you get an error message saying you need to define your pattern, this means you have the pattern stamp. Click on the stamp showing in the toolbox and drag to select the other one.
When using the rubberstamp, you hold down Alt and click where you want to pick up your pixels. Then when you release the Alt key, and click on another area, those pixels are copied to that spot.
You therefore want to Alt click on a spot that is as near as possible to what you want your spot to be covered with in tone, color, and texture.

I have drawn a big red circle where you would Alt click. By centering it exactly over the black crack, you should be able to then center it over the white spot and have the applied black crack line up properly. The trick is that once you have Alt clicked, you can’t see what is where. You have to guess.
I applied the rubber stamp where the green circle is drawn. You can’t see the white spot very well, but I think you can see that the black crack is again centered in the cursor. Yes, you can use such a big brush if the tones on either side are even.
This is a fast and dirty way to retouch. A better looking if more tedious way is shown next.
