In the default arrangement, the Navigator and Info group will be at the top of your column of palettes. If the Info palette is not visible, click on its title tab to bring it to the front or choose Window > Show Info. The data which appears in the Info palette depends on the tool you are using. When the eyedropper has been selected, the Info palette will show a constantly updated list of the color ingredients of whatever is directly below the pointer. If the color beneath the cursor is out of the CMYK gamut, an exclamation mark will appear beside that colors information. If the measure tool is selected, it
will show location and distance information. Location and distance data includes x and y coordinates of starting points, change in x, change in y, width, and height, and angle. All information is instantly updated as the cursor is moved across the image. Color information is available in six modes. There are seven measurement unit options. BUG - if you have an image open on top of the (open) File Browser, the color numbers in the Info palette will only display for about half a second once you stop moving your cursor over the picture. This behavior will persist even if you then minimize the File Browser. Closing the File Browser seems to correct the problem. Please note that this entire palettes section has been updated from a Photoshop 6 version (which was updated from a 5.5 version). Wherever the palette is essentially the same as it was in 6, I have continued to use the screen capture illustrations made using that version. So if you notice cosmetic discrepancies in the illustrations, that's why. In all instances where features were added or changed, I have made new screen captures.

The illustration on the left, below, shows the Info palette featuring
data from the eyedropper tool which
was being dragged across the image. On the right below, is the same palette showing the information that appears when a line is drawn with the measure tool. Beneath that, the third illustration shows the same eyedropper color and location information as the first illustration, but four color samplers have been added by clicking on four colors in the image with the color sampler tool. The four samples data is appended to the bottom of the Info palette.

The dialog box below shows the Info palettes options. You can choose the color mode for two readouts. The Second Color Readout heading is concealed under the open menu. You can also access these options by clicking on an eyedropper icon in the Info palette as shown above, right. Note that if you chooseOpacity from this menu, you will get opacity readings
from your image such as this. Below the large image, is a smaller one showing the Ruler Units menu activated. The drop down title is partially obscured in the main illustration. It appears at the bottom of that box. These Units settings can also be accessed by clicking on the + icon next to the x, y, text boxes in the Info palette.
